Brief Description: Have you ever dreamed of a photography adventure in Baja California? Nature photographer and Scripps scientist Dr. Dan Cartamil has been exploring northern Baja for over 10 years, seeking out the region’s most picturesque ‘secret spots’ for his upcoming book: “Baja’s Wild Side: A photographic journey through northern Baja California’s imperiled Pacific coast Region”. Now you can take the ultimate photographic adventure with Dr. Cartamil and veteran tour operator Mike Essary of Baja Custom Tours. We will transport you, in the utmost comfort and safety, to a series of photo opportunities you will never forget.

Sites include:
The San Quintin Volcanic Field – A wonderland of lichen-encrusted volcanoes, beaches and estuaries on the Pacific coast.

Bahia de Los Angeles – Widely regarded as one of the Baja’s most beautiful bays! Enjoy sunrise photo shoots of the Sea of Cortez, a boat tour of the offshore islands and wildlife, and a thrilling off-road adventure to photograph ancient rock art.

Valley of the Cirios – Our tour is structured to progressively journey farther and farther from the ‘beaten path’, ending in one of the most spectacular (and little known) desert landscapes imaginable. Palm oases, sheer canyons, cultural artifacts, and bizarre plant life will give us countless photographic subjects.
Finally, we’ll stop at beautiful Guadalupe Valley on the last day for lunch and wine tasting before we cross the border.

Logistics: We will be lodging in our selected Baja motels, except for the final two nights in the Valley of the Cirios, where we will stay in a rustic (but beautiful!) eco-lodge in the high desert. Meals will mostly take place in our favorite Baja restaurants and street stands. Snacks and drinks will be available for field excursions. Transportation is in a spacious (11-passenger capacity) 4×4 Ford E350 Van – lots of room for your gear!

Although many of our sites are easily accessible, you will need to be in reasonable physical shape to navigate the more rugged locations. The tour will be packed with activities: morning shoots, afternoon excursions, and even late night star photography sessions. However, all activities are optional… If you feel like sleeping in, or just spending an afternoon lying on the beach with a good book, go for it!

● Small Groups – Maximum of 7 participants for this tour, hurry and book now!
● For photographers of all levels. Instruction will be provided.
● We will send you a checklist of recommended items to bring on the trip.
